Privacy Policy
dropintab is made and run by Akhil, an individual developer in India ("I", "me"). It is built to know as little about you as possible: there are no accounts, and your files go straight from one device to another.
This policy explains what that means in practice. Questions? Write to akhilms272@gmail.com.
Your files
Files and notes you send travel directly between the devices in a room, encrypted on the way. They never pass through or get stored on my server, and I can't see them.
On the receiving device, a file is kept in that browser until it is saved, so a transfer can carry on after a dropped connection. dropintab removes these copies by itself: finished files after 2 hours, unfinished ones after 24 hours, or right away when you tap Clear. With Save while receiving, the file goes straight to your downloads and no copy is kept.
What the server sees
To help devices find each other, dropintab runs a small connection server. While you are in a room it handles:
- the room code, and the nickname, avatar and device type (for example "Android · Chrome") you show to others;
- your IP address, to tell which devices are on the same network, to stop abuse such as guessing room codes, and to set up the direct connection;
- the technical details your devices exchange to connect to each other.
This is held in memory only while it is needed and is gone when the room empties. People on the same network can see your nickname in Nearby devices; you can hide your device from them in Privacy.
Like most websites, the web server in front of dropintab keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser) for a short time, for security and troubleshooting.
Public server (optional)
If two devices can't reach each other, dropintab can offer a public server run by Google to help them connect. It is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, Google sees your IP address, under Google's Privacy Policy. Your files still go directly between the devices.
Support payments
Payments on the Support page are handled by Razorpay. You enter your card, UPI or bank details with Razorpay, not with me, and Razorpay's Privacy Policy applies to them. I never see those details.
I keep only what the supporter wall needs and what is required to match a payment: the Razorpay order and payment IDs, the amount and currency, the time, and your name if you chose to show it. The wall shows your name only if you chose to, and the amount only if you chose to; otherwise you appear as Anonymous. To be removed from the wall, email me with your payment ID.
Razorpay's dashboard keeps its own record of each payment, as payment rules require.
Cookies and storage on your device
dropintab doesn't use advertising cookies. It stores a few things in your browser so they stay on your device: your nickname and avatar, your settings, and received files as described above. Razorpay's payment window may set its own cookies while you pay.
Analytics: dropintab uses Google Analytics to count anonymous usage, such as which pages are visited, rough location (country or city), device type and browser. Google sets its own cookies for this and keeps the data for 2 months. Room codes, invite links, file names, nicknames and anything you send are never included; every room is reported only as "a room". Advertising features and Google signals are off. To opt out, block cookies for this site or use Google's opt-out add-on. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Sharing
I don't sell or rent personal data, and I don't share it with anyone except as described here (Razorpay for payments, and Google for analytics, and for the public server only if you turn it on), or if the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can use dropintab without giving your real name. You can clear received files, change your nickname, and hide your device at any time. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything dropintab stored on that device.
You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it (for example, your supporter wall entry), under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other laws that apply to you. Email akhilms272@gmail.com and I will reply within 30 days.
Children
dropintab is a general tool and isn't aimed at children. If you are under 18, please use it, and especially the Support page, only with a parent or guardian's permission.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
